After watching the videos, the interview with Dorian Johnson on Politics Nation, looking at the statements from various organizations, and preparing for the release of the statement from BYP 100 there is so much that I could say. All I will say is: I will not be attending any silent marches, because silent marches bring no voice to the issue at hand which is the criminalization and constant devaluing of black lives. I will not be attending any mass meetings or community forums, unless there are specific local asks of people with the power to implement the asks, and a direct interface with those decision-makers. I will not sign a petition, unless that petition has specific policy, training, and direct action connected to it not implied because I will not be just another signature, on another petition, that is just really an opportunity to build a list and claim power that is not actually being built or acted with. I will support any conversation that is happening on a local level and directly engages decision-makers and those in positions of power. I will support any direct-action that is actually focused on making people aware of their own power, building upon that power, and altering the existing relations of power. I will support organizations and individuals that are building training for both infuriated individuals and police officers/members of our criminal justice system, and are doing whatever they can to push the importance of training, communication, and creating institutional change. I will support organizations and individuals that understand that justice on one case is not enough- and uses this as an opportunity to build something, anything concrete and tangible that can actually improves peoples lives not just improve your klout score or organizational clout.
