After working in college admissions and recruitment for nearly 10 years, I’ve learned that when it comes to college advising, the best approach is always to help guide students toward a college that meets their academic needs and fits their educational and career goals, irrespective of their income levels. Now, as a caveat, I’m not suggesting that you don’t encourage students to take into consideration what he or she can reasonably afford; however, to purposely bypass recruiting students from a “certain area” based solely upon a limited scope of research and narrow-minded perceptions not only hurts students who could potentially benefit from what that college or university has to offer, but it also hurts the institution because it limits the experiences of the students currently enrolled who would benefit from the diversity that these students would bring to the campus. - See more at: bit.ly/1oY0HJI
