Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. John 6:63 Quite unexpectedly,two monks from a Buddhist monastery in Sri Lanka came to possess a New Testament a few years ago. They started reading it. The reports in the four gospels of the life and works of Jesus affected them deeply. Their hearts were attracted to the Person of Jesus and the convincing truth and living power in His teaching. Studying the Bible,the monks recognized that the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ was inseparably bound up with His divine nature and the fact that He is the Son of God. After the gospels they read the Acts,wondering how things would continue with the disciples of Jesus after His death,resurrection and ascention. They truely believed in the Son of God; they had received Him into their hearts as their Saviour and Lord. However,through reading the Acts they saw clearly that they needed to take their stand publicly on the side of Jesus with all its consequences. They left their monastery and were baptized. Two thousand years ago the high priests and pharisees tried to have Jesus captured by their servants on one occasion. The latter,however,were so impressed by Christ and His message and they returned without carrying out their orders. Their explanation was: No man ever spoke like this Man. (John 7:46).
