Age Group Championship Post Meet report: [Age group state championship (July 26-28, IUPUI)] All swimmers made personal best (PB) in all or some events at championship meets. All performances at age group state championships were shown above. CCiST showed some strength in freestyle sprints. 13-14 boys team A placed the 4th and team B placed the 23rd in 200-meter freestyle relay. Celina German and Hannah Kunzman made their personal best or best tie in 50-meter Fr (50Fr). Celina place the 3rd. I believe that Celina will win the state champion title in the senior state or higher level competition, and Hannah will always challenge her teammate. Celina also led the team Indiana at Central Zone 14&U championships (Zone) and improved her times in all 3 events she competed (50Fr - 27.50, 100Fr - 1:00.24, 200Fr - 2: 15.95) William Dixon who started club swimming in December 2012, placed the 13th in 50Fr. Justin Baltzeger showed a great swim (27.50) in the 1st leg of 200-m freestyle relay and led the team. William (27.53) and Michael (28.13) followed Justin and relayed to Matthew (25.86) who won a close race with Donner swim club. These 4 boys improved their seed time by 3.5 sec, and it was a great race. Wyeth M, Michael H, Alan N, and Katherine B also competed in their individual events. Although the swimmers could not achieve their goal, they have already sworn that they will come back to the state championship again next year to perform better and lead the team. Andy Chang swam well and made PBs in all 3 events he competed in 11-12 age-group. He placed the 12th in 50Br and 14th in 100Br. He just turned age 11 years in May, and I look forward to his further improvements and better performances at next state championships. Gillian Boggs also placed the top 8 in 3 events. She had a good experience over the summer and at this championship meet to be a better swimmer. Gillian also competed in 4 individual and 2 relay events at Zone for Team Indiana. Gillian and Andy will create the CCiST sensation at the future age group state championships with their teammates! Lastly, swimmers who competed in relay events swam well as representatives of CCiST. They have already set the next goals: making individual state cuts. We do not train/practice only to make state cuts but to make their best performances at state championships. In fact, these swimmers swam very well at Divisional championship held 1 week after age group state. [Divisional championships (August 3-4, Fishers High school, short course)] Senior and Age group summary At Divisional championships (25-yard pool), many swimmers showed better performance in the finals. Overall (including 10&U), personal bests were made in 83.2% of races CCiST swimmers competed. There were 48 swims made in the finals (excluding 10&U), and 56.3% of them were faster than in the prelim times. The ratio increases to 75% when including ‘similar’ time (prelim time + ~0.2 sec). Improved performance in the finals was often seen in older swimmers (13&over). Michael Hull made best times in all races he competed (12 races: 6 events) including a win in 200IM (2:17.17). Wesley Webb also made best times in all events and won in 100Fly. He also made 2 state cuts (100Fly – 59.06 and 100Ba – 1:01.62)! Rachel D and Caitlynn S (OPEN) and Sonia R (age 13-14) also improved their time in all final races. Especially their Br races were great: Rachel (1:16.74 - 6th 1:19.01 prelim), Sonia (1:19.72 – 6th 1:18.95), and Caitlynn (2:48.64 – 6th 2:52.98). Chase Webb won in both 100 and 200 backstroke with senior state cuts (these races were great to see)! Naomi Brown also had a victory in 200Fly, and she will make state cuts in the fall season for sure! Other impressive performances were made by Grant B (100Ba & 200Fr), Katherine B (100Fr), Andy C (100Fr & 50Fly), Hannah K (100Fr & 200Fr), Grace O (100Fr), and Ben M (200Ba). Overall, CCiST swimmers performed very well at the Divisional championships. Coaches are already looking forward to swimmers’ further improvements in the next season and to seeing the CCiST sensation at the championship meets in March!
