Ah. I thoroughly loved two surprise encounters with some of my favorite people this week. Yesterday, Bessie and Dr. Frank Campbell were at MCL with their daughter Mary. Bessie called me at home about a week after my pancreatic cancer surgery. Of course, I was still in the hospital, so I called her. She was shocked when she heard all that had been done. Bessie is a tiny lady but she gives giant hugs and kisses. And this afternoon, a knock on the door revealed my very special IU home health care nurse, Vickie Nelson. I love her so! It was better than a surprise party. She helped Ron and me get through some VERY trying times. She recalled meeting us as scared know-nothings walking into a deep dark forest on our first trip home from the hospital on a rainy Friday night. It was sheer terror. Vickie was an angel in our home twice a week after each surgery. Fortunately, I had been out watering some plants and she saw me in the yard as she drove by. She turned around and came back when she knew for sure that we still lived here. The hugs and kisses exchanged this week have thrilled my soul.
