Aha - strange restaurants & strangers - what a combo to have a Israel Palestine talk with a Palestinian, a Moroccan & none other than my fav a Pakistani. We ended up comparing Gaza with Kashmir and conclusion of the discussion is that India & Pakistan has similar issues and we have fought 3 wars over this issue in last 67 years. We still call the disputed territory as PoK - Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Its very easy for India to take this piece of land back from Pakistan without killing any real civilians (Pak will say its civilians - but they are militants supported by Pakistani rangers, army, intelligence & terrorists groups like lashkar-e-taiba, al-queda, Taliban, Indian mujaheddin; as well as most importantly some special batteries trained by the Chinese military). India could have done it in 1999 just as a part of the Kargil war, but then out leaders always bring in the useless PEACE LOVING clause, and we are still suffering. Every day most of my friends in both sides of the borders live in utmost fear. An average of 200 soldiers of both the sides loose their lives per month - then there are illegal ambush and incidents like beheading of soldiers. Now it has become a routine - we dont react - the govt dont react - everyone is numb - we have developed a special sense which digests amputation of an Indian soldier without any hitch. But when we hear the same happening to even a single American cadet we grow concerned. The topic moved to killings of Muslim by non-Muslims and again India-Pak became a standard. It took me sometime to help them understand that we have more Muslims in India than in Pakistan and that its the same in the defense also. Then to their shock they learned from me that in 1971 war (Bangladesh freedom / separation) it was west Pakistani Muslims (now Pakistan) killing the Muslims in east Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and they have allegedly killed around 3 million Muslims - the orders from leaders of Pakistan army were loud & clear - kill the men, rape & kill the women. India rescued and provided for refugee else it was almost clear that 11 million Muslims may loose their lives. In Gaza also I personally believe its the actions of fellow Muslim countries and some selfish leaders that their fellow Muslims are being killed - why not really come and provide genuine help to Palestine. So when I told them that my views are neutral and Im not much affected - they all agreed that the problem in Gaza is nothing compared to the tensions at Indo-Pak border. Gaza gazelles just once in a decade and our borders are always on fire.
