Ahead of tomorrows opening of the Commonwealth Games, heres a brief overview of the Athletes Village: Located in Dalmarnock, Glasgow, the Village comprises 700 houses and flats and has achieved the police ‘Secured By Design’ standard. Extensive use of galvanized steel with a powder coated finish has been used in external locations around the village, helping to achieve environmental standards which are far in excess of the requirements of current building technical standards and have achieved EcoHomes ‘Excellent’ and BREEAM ‘Excellent’ ratings respectively. Following the Games, retrofit works shall take place creating a distinctly different and identifiable new city district which offers an alternative approach to the traditional housing estate, and which will engender ownership and pride.
