Ahoy from the other side of the world! I steamed out of Cape Town, South Africa, aboard the R/V Dr Fridtjof Nansen almost two weeks ago, stopping at a couple of seamounts along the way to assess the marine life and their ecosystems. Two days into the steam we reached our first seamount called Schmidt-Ott about 380 nautical miles out of Capetown. Now we’re further out on a complex of seamounts called “Wust.” We finished mapping it over the weekend and readied the campod to take a real look at the area. Fingers crossed that we see some sharks!
