Airbus UK 4-1 U15s After an early leave from Barrow and long journey down the M6 to Wales. Under 15’s started the game slow out the blocks conceding an early goal to Airbus UK U15’s. Within the first 10minutes the Airbus winger got behind the AFC defence with a cross into the 6 yard box, headed in by the towering 6ft 2in centre forward who was head and shoulders above the AFC defenders. AFC gradually worked their way back into the game with some great combination play between the midfield and forwards creating a number of chances but failed to hit the back of the net. A second goal was scored just before the end of the first period meaning AFC had a job on their hands to get back into the game. A couple of changes at the interval resulted in both teams having a number of chances. Unfortunately Barrow conceded a 3rd goal with a long range shot by the Airbus midfielder resulting in the AFC keeper struggling to keep hold of the ball and it going over the line to make it 3-0. In the final 3rd period AFC playing against a big, physical side battled hard to get back into the game moving the ball around quickly and making some excellent driving runs towards goal but the Airbus defence made it difficult to break down. Against the run of play Airbus grabbed a 4th with some slack defending from AFC. The AFC players didn’t let their heads go down regardless of the score line and showed good character resulting in a hectic goal mouth scramble 15 minutes to go with Ben Stoker forcing the ball into the back of the Airbus goal making the score 4-1. This goal spurred the AFC players on and dominated the last period of the game with Prosser forcing the Airbus keeper to make a great 1 on 1 save and going close a number of times. Coach Steven Gills thoughts on the game: “It is my second game in charge of the squad and I am happy with the effort, attitude and character of all the players in training and during the two games I have been in charge of so far. The last few weeks we have been focusing on our ability to keep possession especially in tight areas, playing lots of small sided games but today I thought it was too inconsistent.” “I feel as a team we need to create more goal scoring opportunities and it’s something we will now be focusing on in training. In the two games we have played we really need to tighten up defensively as a team and reduce the number of goals we concede. Overall I am a little disappointed because I know the players are certainly capable of performing to the high standards I expect of them.”
