Airport looks for new carrier With passenger numbers dwindling and federal funds in jeopardy, the airport board hopes a new airline will fix the problems. By James Chilton jchilton@wyomingnews CHEYENNE -- The Cheyenne Regional Airport Board voted Tuesday to enter into a contract with a Colorado firm to help it find a new carrier. The board voted to approve the contract after forecasts showed the airport could see fewer than 10,000 enplanements this year. Enplanements refer to the number of passengers boarding flights out of Cheyenne and exclude those who fly into the airport. The airport’s director of aviation, David Haring, said enplanements have been dropping following the enactment of a new federal law that increases the number of hours a person has to fly before they can be hired as an airline pilot. That law has caused the airport’s existing carrier, Great Lakes Airlines, to shed dozens of pilots who failed to meet the new flight-time requirements. That, in turn, has led to increased flight cancellations. For more of this story, and to comment on it, click here: wyomingnews/articles/2014/01/22/news/19local_01-22-14.txt
