Al Ain: Air-conditioned bus stops on way Announced last year but the plan is yet to be implemented Al Ain: The Department of Transport (DoT) announced in December that 120 air-conditioned bus stops are to be built in Al Ain City and its suburbs. Not one has yet been built. According to a previously announced programme, Al Ain’s bus stops are part of the department’s Surface Transport Master Plan (STMP). Under this plan, the Department intends to install some 360 air-conditioned bus shelters across Abu Dhabi Island, Abu Dhabi’s suburbs, Al Ain City, Al Ain’s suburbs and the Western Region, at a cost of approximately Dh100 million. The design is based on Islamic architecture. The bus shelters will be in three sizes to meet the needs of various passengers across the emirate, according to the Department. When Gulf News contacted the Department for progress regarding the plan it did not respond.
