Alan Sipe posted this to Feathered Sanctuary and I thought it was very good and should be shared. The only way I could share was to copy and paste in my status. So heres something for those that want a bird that doesnt bite, isnt loud, isnt aggressive and isnt everything else you dont want.. WELL THEY MAY NOT BE HUMAN BUT THE ARE ANIMAL HUMAN AND HAVE FEELING. Here is Alans letter. Dear human, I am an exotic pet bird who happens to have been homeless, but was able to find a forever home, and I am looking for some answers to some very simple questions. Please give me a few moments of your time to hear what I have to say. What is it that the human race expects from me? I play quietly and I am yelled at because I do not talk. I raise my voice in joy when you come home from work and I am wrong for being too loud. I put my beak on your hand to steady myself while stepping onto your arm and am called aggressive. I am stressed by the heat from the steam radiator against the back of my cage which causes me to pluck my feathers and you no longer want me because I am no longer beautiful. You allow little humans to bang on my cage and poke at me with sticks and you wonder why I do not come running when you finally do open my cage to let me out. There are many other birds, like me, looking for love and attention from the human race. We did not ask to be taken from our native land or bred in captivity just to be shoved into a cage for the rest of our lives. However, we are more than willing to adapt, if shown love and understanding and will lovingly share our lives with you. There is some hope on the horizon for the homeless and abused birds. There are Bird Rescues out there who help those like us. There is one place, I know of, where birds get a nice large cage, plenty of toys, food, fresh water, and attention from some very loving and caring people. The place is called “Feathered Sanctuary” and it is located on Willow St., in Willow Street, PA.. Their website is featheredsanctuaryrescue.org . Phone number is 717-464-3333. This organization is run 100% by unpaid volunteers and is a 501 C 3 Non-profit , funded solely on donations from the general public. Their motto says it all: “IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BIRDS” In today’s unpredictable economy, the nonprofit organizations are really struggling. I ask all humans reading this letter to stop by and have a look around at the rescue and see if you can help them out in any way. There are many birds looking for a loving human to share their life with. If your lifestyle will not accommodate having a bird as a pet, maybe you would be kind enough to donate some of your time, money, or both, to this very worthy cause. Thanks for listening
