Alastair McIntosh In this final two-and-a-half weeks we should refuse to be drawn into the narrow currency debate, or whether an egg counts for more than the bullets of elsewhere in the world, and focus only on the values - whether spiritually informed or otherwise. Currency, the EU and oil riches have been framed as the comfortable fields of mainstream acceptable discourse. But really, this is about the big values, values of the heart, of love. Generosity of spirit, justice, wonted work, health and wellbeing, a Scots internationalism, culture and attitude of the mind. Such is what can free Scotland to set a new tenor for a world that wallows in despair for want of hope. Im just back from speaking to our southern friends, and I do believe, as an English-born Scot, that whats happening here is good news for waking up a radical England too. At the Greenbelt festival last week I found that many of them, though with a touch of sadness and a gasp at the long journey that lies ahead, agreed. I kept saying, but youre not losing us - were together finding a new way.
