Alberta, was a loving, caring, amazing Mother, Sister, Aunt, and Cousin. But being a Grandma was her calling from God. I could keep everyone here for days recalling every memory I have and the way her love helped shape me into the woman I am today. I know I dont just speak for myself but for all my cousins we all loved spending time or sleeping over at Grandmas. Either if it was a group of us or just by ourselves. Grandma always had special treats one of my favorites was her frozen milkyway bars. I cant ever remember a time they were not a bag or two in her freezer door. Her built in shelves where she kept all of her shot glasses that she had collected from her vacations. I remember dusting these numerous times under her watchful eye. The Albertas Dog House with all of her children names on the seven dogs you could always tell which grandchild was over there last by which child was in the doghouse, even though Uncle Randy was in there the most probably because he lived there. Chantelle and I always thought Grandmas bed was our stage. Using her bed post toppers as our microphones as we danced and singed while watching ourselves through her dresser mirror. Of course Papa would fuss and she would tell him let the girls have fun. I remember one night while laying in bed with her watching all in the family, Grandma had fell asleep so I shut off the tv. Only for her to wake up and ask why I shut off the tv? I told her because she was sleeping and of course she said she wasnt, I told her that her eyes were closed she told me she was just resting them. But, I said Grandma you were snoring and she told me I DONT SNORE! Of course i tried to make the sound of her snoring only for us to start laughing. I always will remember Sunday dinners at Grandmas her delicious roast. Family time was very important to her. She loved to watch all of us dance, I always knew Grandma was in the first row at every dance recital. She had a special glow to her as she watched all of us dance. I probably missed a step or two waiving to her or from the loud whistle that came from my Parran. As much as we all loved dancing recital it only meant that we were that much closer to Grandmas vacation. Papa and Grandmas camp other wise known as The Cramers Crowd was where the whole family spent our summers. There was a nerer a dull moment or no one ever complained of being bored. Even at night when we couldnt swim my cousins and myself use to put on our own dance rectials for everyone. The camp was a magical place to me even more now that Im grown . Its amazing how this camp built on pillings over the water was so much more then it was ever worth. It was a place where all seven siblings and there children joined each other every year it made us closer while building a family bond between all of us that can never be broken. In 1994 after the May flood my Grandma took care of me and my five siblings while my Mom was in the hospital. It was doing this time with a little persuasion from my Aunt Cathy, Chantelle, but mostly by Grandma my Mom decided to let me live with Grandma for my sophmore year to attend Archbishop Chapelle High School. Grandma also made sure I made my conformation while I was living there to strengthen my relationship with God. Even though i was there to help Grandma since this was right after she suffered her first stroke. She knew that this was the first time I was able to be a teenager. She would wake up every morning to see me off to school and was waiting everyday when I returned home to find out how my day was. My only sibling there was really my uncle! And if we ever made her mad because we said something about OJ Simpson are we just wanted to make her smile wed surprise her with a banana milk shake from Rallys or a banana banshee daiquiri. Before I moved in with Grandma she had all of her azalea bushes pulled up and had rose bushes planted. they were not blooming like they should so I learned how to care for them and in no time everyday she had a new bloom. She loved to look at them through her big living room window. The second time my Grandma took me in was when my house burned down not only did she take me in but my family her two great-grandchildren and their dad as well. Just reinforcing what I learned as a child that Family should always be there for one another no matter what. My last memory Im going to share is about the season we are in now. As I am sure everyone knew how much Grandma loved this time of the year. I can always remember her and Papa sitting in their yellow chairs on Bonnabel watching all of us running around and having a good time. About 5yrs ago when I requested off of work for Mardi Gras the reason I put was family obligation, my supervisor then didnt see it that way. Needless to say the next day i came in with over a dozen of pictures some where the whole family is dressed in tye dye needless to say I have not worked Mardi Gras for the past 5yrs and will be with my family this Mardi Gras as well. Grandma thank you for in-stowing all your family morals unto me, for always being there for me, but mostly for the unconditional love you not only gave me but all of us. I know you will be watching us from above and I promise I will always keep our family first and to always stay apart of each other lives no matter which direction life takes any of us.
