Albertville Al. 500.00. Started right, ready to finish. 3 year old bay rabicano roan (more dominate roaning mostly on ribcage, flanks and base of tail) Mustang gelding. 15 hands if not a tad over . Came out of OR. Was kept up to date on everything ( coggins, shots and hoof care) while in holding with the BLM. We have ALL his paperwork from the BLM including his vaccination, coggins and hoof care records. Neg. coggins in hand, vaccination record avi if needed. ( we had all this updated when he arrived at our place total cost- $ 135.00 ) A friend of ours in KY adopted him. Kept him close to a year and a half. Semi halter broke him while in his care. We took him on to give him a chance and the right start. Has had about 30 days actual work with us. Sense he has been with us we have continued his halter work with leading, tying, being on the exercise/ hot walker. He is to the point of trusting us that most of the time we can walk up to him in the pasture and halter him. We have started his ground work; lounging for respect, yielding his hind quarters, facing up, direction change, respecting our space, coming to us and backing out of our space when asked. He has been extensively desensitized with the stick and string, ropes, sack on a stick, tarps, chickens, 4-wheelers, tractors and more! We have started his ground work through our obstacle course which includes: TX 3 step, jumps, hanging barrels, curtains, wooden bridges, tires, poles, a 5 ½ foot deep pit about 25 foot long, water and mud crossings and a pond. He took to it fairly quick and seemed to enjoy working thru them. He will stand for grooming and saddling. He has been worked with drive lines ( hooked to his halter or side pull, no bits used yet) He was a little nervous about the lines touching his legs at first and someone behind him asking him to move forward but after a a session or two he was fine with it. Has never offered to kick, strike or bite and is willing to learn and accept things. He will flex with ease with just a halter or side pull. Loves peppermint treats! He gets handled just about daily ( sense being with us), brushed, hooves picked up and general handling to get AND keep him comfortable around people. He is stalled every morning and fed 12% Tucker Solution. We go into his stall and brush him while he is eating and spend quality time with him so he doesnt think every time he is haltered or handled he is going to be worked. Hay is kept in front of him while stalled and then turned out on grass late evening/night. He is big boned, has great hooves ( recently trimmed- 9/14/2014 and done very well) and is taller than most mustangs that make it into our area. He has come along way but still has a long way to go. We have not ridden him yet, been doing a ton of the basics, desensitizing and preparing him for a future under saddle. He is pastured with our other geldings and stud colts, gets along with everyone. He is mid ways in herd order, he does not bother anyone and will stay out of the dominate horses way. He is gentle with our colts and looks after them. ( he has made a good babysitter sense we weaned the babies!) He is not for an inexperienced person. Diesel is still a bit stand offish with some one new but learns to respect and look for leadership in a person once you began working with him. He is very curious and exploritative about new things and situations. He will make a nice all around horse with time, patients and training.
