Alec Hepburn JWC Winner Former Gillott’s and Henley College student Alec Hepburn played an integral part in the success of the England U20 rugby side that became the 1st Northern Hemisphere team to lift the Junior World Cup in France last weekend. Hepburn, 20, played in all of England’s Pool games against reigning champions South Africa, France and in the 100 point demolition of the USA. Despite not starting the semi final he came off the bench for the last 30 minutes making some vital tackles to help England hold off a resurgent New Zealand. Alec was selected to start in the final against Wales in the first Northern Hemisphere final in the history of the competition. In an enthralling contest England showed great self belief and determination to fight their way back from a two score deficit to eventually prevail 23-15. The season couldn’t have finished any better for Alec who had only managed to play one game during the English season having been forced to undergo a Knee ligament reconstruction in September. The Australian born loose head prop will now enjoy a short holiday before joining his London Wasps teammates for pre-season training.
