Alexs Army - Asking for prayers for Alex over the next few weeks. This week instead of preparing for the start of 5th grade, he is spending the week back and forth to DC for numerous tests to see if hes ready for the high dose chemo next week. Tests include PETscan, CTscan, pulmonary tests, renal function tests, blood work, EKG, dental appointment (which he already had and they had to pull a tooth so that he wouldnt lose it during treatment), and lengthy dr consults signing consent forms and waivers. Next week, when he should be enjoying his first day of 5th grade, Alex will be going to DC for the high dose chemo/ stem cell rescue. While we are VERY thankful we still have treatment as an option to fight the remaining tumor...we are saddened that the reality is Alex will yet again spend quite some time in the hospital instead of doing what kids his age should be doing!! In ALL of his years in grade school, first grade is the ONLY grade hes completed all the way through without treatment. Diagnosed the first month of Kindergarten, relapsed for the first time halfway through second grade with treatments ongoing since then...Alex has spent a majority of his grade school years in and out of treatment. The saddest thing of all is that he is not alone in this and there are way too many kids who will be right alongside him in that hospital next week when they should be at school! We are asking for prayers for Alex as this next treatment is going to be the most difficult for us all yet; praying God will use this to heal our baby for good, prayers for Derek and I as we care for our babies separately and try to support each other emotionally from a distance, and prayers for Jacob as he will be apart from his big brother for some time as well through this next round. We will never give up and we will never lose hope... With Faith, Hope, and Love - The Green Family
