All In: 30 Day Devos Day 22: October 7, 2013 I’m sure we have all heard of the “Nobel Prize” granted to writers or scientists, writers, and others who make significant and innovative contributions to improve our world. Have you ever heard the story of how the awards came to be? In April of 1888, Alfred Nobel opened the newspaper and was astonished to find his own obituary appearing. His brother Ludwig had died, but one news outlet had mistakenly reported the death of Alfred, who was very much alive! As he read the obituary, written by a prominent German newsman, Alfred was astonished at the account of his life. Most famous for having invented dynamite, he was reading the his legacy, and seeing himself characterized as “a merchant of death, whose great fortunes had come from his discovery of a new method to kill and mutilate.” It was that day, that Nobel decided to change his legacy, and soon after left his entire fortune to establish the Nobel Prizes, “Awarded to those who in the previous year had made the greatest contributions to the benefit of mankind.” I wonder if YOU could read an account of your own life, would it drive you to change something? Would it be the legacy you most want to leave? Would it be a legacy that looked at all like the hope we “SAY” we have? READ: 1 John 3:1-19 Discuss/Reflect: -Take a moment to answer the question at the end of the paragraph above: “I wonder if YOU could read an account of your own life, would it drive you to change something? Would it be the legacy you most want to leave? Would it be a legacy that looked at all like the hope we “SAY” we have? -When youre honest, are you happy with the legacy you would leave if tomorrow was the last day for you? -Does your legacy to date, show that you understand the truth of Christ’s love and grace? Pray: -Confess to God the areas that you are not proud of, the areas where your life is obviously void of the reminder of His Grace -Thank Him for His grace. Express to Him the ways that you see He loves you and has loved you -Ask him to help you live to be significant in pointing others toward His grace.
