All it takes is one loud noise to initiate lifelong ear problems. In this legal case, a Scottish woman developed tinnitus after a cymbal was struck near her ear. Ironically, she was in a drum shop to buy earplugs for her son, who suffers from tinnitus. The shops owner was apparently trying to demonstrate what tinnitus was like. It seems that she has mild hyperacusis, as well. She avoids noisy surroundings. She uses ear plugs when carrying out tasks such as vacuuming or using a blender and when going to the hairdresser or dentist.
