All manner of plants, especially herbs have been used to promote - TopicsExpress

All manner of plants, especially herbs have been used to promote health and wellbeing for centuries, throughout the world. Before the rise of Allopathic medicine (orthodox medicine), herbal remedies play a major role in health care. Whereas herbal medicines uses the natural healing qualities of the whole plant, allopathic medicine relies on the active ingredients of plants isolated in laboratories; these are then sometimes combined with inorganic and synthetic ingredients. This new direction in health care turned its back on the traditional holistic approach of herbal wisdom, which used the whole plant to treat the whole person, rather than a few active ingredients being used to alleviate or suppress the symptoms of a disease. As a result of the increasing dominance of the new allopathic medicine, much of the ancient wisdom of herbal medicine was lost. Many of the traditional herbal healers were the wise women, living in villages, who commanded great respect- and not a little fear- because of their healing powers. The rise of allopathic medicine and its use of inorganic chemicals was accompanied by the systemic disparagement of women’s powers to heal using natural herbs and other plants. During the 17th Century many women were ultimately condemned as witches, tried by mobs, and burned at the stake or drowned, for practicing natural herbal medicine. In olden days – from medieval times to the early years of the 20th century- every housewife kept a simple home herbal with a variety of remedies, usually plant based, to cure everyday aches and pains, colds and minor injuries. Wise women healers and doctors were consulted only on occasions when the home herbal proved insufficient for curing the patient. Today many Doctors are inundated with trivial matters and don’t have enough time in their day to see all that wish to see them. However, in the past decades there has been a renowned interest in once again using the power of plants to maintain health and treat disease. This is partly due because the limitations and side effects of allopathic medicine have become all too obvious, but also because a growing number of people believe in the efficacy of the traditional herbal holistic approach. Many of these people have a desire too, to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing, without always having to depend on their doctor to treat minor ailments. The dominance of pharmaceutical companies and their seeming thirst for the mighty dollar is another reason why people are returning to the ancient ways. A simple life of eating healthy wholesome food should be desired. Herbs and other natural treatments used to treat imbalances in our life force before disease occurs. A life full of appreciation of nature and a connection with the divine (however you do so) is the key to wellbeing. That’s the life I crave... Ruby)8(
