All of my friends here are so smart and savy, and so I want to - TopicsExpress

All of my friends here are so smart and savy, and so I want to tell you all about something that some of you might be interested in, if you don’t already know about it. Everybody’s heard of Cracked, yes? I’m sure. But did you know that anybody can write an article that will appear on the front page, be viewed by hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, and that said body will also be paid real money to do so? And that you get to -- no, are required to -- make dick jokes in the process? I guess if you’ve looked at the website beyond an article or two, you probably do… but if you haven’t, well, I’m telling you about it now, because I think it’s pretty cool. Beyond all of those cool things, you also get direct feedback from the editors who run the website, explaining why your “pitch” will or will not work on the website, and where it needs work. It really is an incredibly awesome system. The “drawbacks” are that it’s pretty difficult to get something through the pitch process. It’s a very particular process. You basically need to find at least six legitimately-sourced (no Fox news, no Huffington Post) facts backing up a central thesis, and all of these facts have to be very interesting. Beyond that, none of the individual facts can have appeared in other Cracked articles, unless you’re saying something new. That’s maybe the hardest part, since there are so many interesting articles archived on the site. You will also need to adhere to a very specific format in you pitches. The whole thing can be time consuming and research intensive. But even that part is fun, because you get to learn a lot of stuff. I’ve had a few pitches fail, and am working on another one right now. Please message me if you’re interested in this at all. It can be confusing and overwhelming at first, and by now I have a pretty good grasp on how it all works. I’ll break it down for you and spare you some agony. I think a lot of “you people” would be good fits for this, but in particular Hunter Felt, because he’s already an internet writer, and Chris Hurley, because he’s a good writer and because his head is more stuffed with interesting facts than 30 ordinary people combined.
