All that Jesus does for us and our salvation is mercy. His sacrifice on the Cross, made present in an unbloody way at every Mass, has the power not only to cleanse us of sin but to raise us up to share in God’s own divine life. (See 2 Peter 1:4.) To receive this wondrous mercy, we simply need to be baptized, repent of our sins,and believe in Jesus Christ. This truly is the Gospel, the good news. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, The Gospel is the revelation in Jesus Christ of God’s mercy to sinners (#1846).
