All through school till the completion of my Law degree was tremendously blessed with very caring teachers who taught with hope, passion, motivation and a sense of direction. Learning has to be a continuous ongoing process. There is always something you can learn from every person you interact with. Great teachers can make a big difference by besides making a lasting impression in the classroom also casting a positive influence on our life. My teachers were more than mere educators while they also played the role as a friend, counselor and mentor. Many of my dear teachers have over the years passed away with one such great teacher Bhavana Kholkar breathing her last on August 27th this year. My teacher was very brave and outspoken. Never ever minced words in all that she had to say. In her little way she would always stand up against injustice and all that was wrong. A regular teacher may merely direct us along the right path, but great teachers like Bhavana Kholkar inspired and challenged us to seek carving our own path. Over the years am also immensely indebted to various social organizations for enriching me with knowledge and invaluable guidance. My particular gratitude will always be to the Rotary Club of Panjim headed by the then President late David Menezes for selecting me in 1973 to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Training Camp. Was then just 13 but the great memories will never fade of that six day memorable camp held at Pilar attended by around 150 participants. That outstanding resource team which guided us virtually sow my foundations in public speaking and writing. That eventful camp which is fondly remembered with nostalgia covered a wide spectrum of areas in educating and guiding us while trying to encourage us to unearth and discover our talents. I owe a lot to the Rotary Club of Panjim for inspiring and enriching me 41 years ago.
