~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Allah Hu Akbar and The Tower Of Babel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The tragic ongoing turmoil and suffering in Iraq and Syria (and numerous other parts of this God forsaken planet), which now includes the organisation known as ISIS, has me wondering a few things. In particular, it is clear that you now have Muslims on both sides, or however many sides there actually are in these situations, all shouting Allah Hu Akbar as they blow themselves to smithereens. In many ways, this issue goes back to Ali ibn Abi Talib and the Battel Of Siffin, effectively the fist Muslim civil war, where the Quran was held aloft on lances, with the assertion that Allah should decide. It is very surreal to see the Umma at war with itself in this way. But then, has it ever been any different? And the term Khawarij is currently doing the rounds , which complicates matters even more! We are the real Muslims ... no we are the real Muslims, which sadly reminds me of those who shout - We are the real Sufis! Meanwhile over in Malaysia, non-Muslims are not even allowed to use the word Allah! edition.cnn/2014/06/24/world/asia/malaysia-allah-ban/ Soon, Muslims will not be able to say Christ or Buddha or or X Y and Z or Ganesha even. Admittedly, the latters censorship will be a bit awkward for those who like to repeat that oft quoted story from Rumi, The blind ones and Ganesha. Then: Buddhists will not be able to say .... Christians will not be able to say .... X Y and Z will not be able to say A B and C and on and on and on. Then other words, initially those which have religious connotations, will be banned from each others vocabulary .... and then factions within each of these communities will begin banning each other from using such words ..and on and on and on .... and then those words that only they use will be banned, whether such words are religious or not, both inside and outside these communities ... and on and on and on .... the process will evolve through the generations, slowly mutating .... Until one day, no one will be able to say anything at all, and the species will be by now mute! The Tower Of Babel having evolved into a Tower of No-Tell. Which really might not be a bad thing. Actually we could make a start now this very moment, and apply such censorship to the word Sufi. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
