Allama Iqbal Open University(AIOU) has achieved 91.5 retention rate of its students who continued their future study and get themselves re-admitted with the university for the next semester. This is highest retention rate as compared to other educational institutions in the country that shows the students’ growing trust in the university’s educational system, said vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi while presiding over a five-day workshop, began here on Monday to conduct self-review verification process on quality education. The self-review exercise has been undertaken in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in order to develop the AIOU’s teaching system in accordance with internationally recognized educational standard. Renowned educationist from Sri Lanka Prof. Uma Coomaraswamy, who had been appointed by the COL as external verifier was also present on the occasion. Dr. Bakht Rawan, Assitant Professor Mass Communication Department gave a presentation on the occasion, explaining the mechanism process, adopted for self-review verification and the existing university’s rating on quality assurance. Dr. Sangi said that the university has laid special focus on capacity-building of its academic and administrative staff, besides a motivation campaign was launched to develop innovative and creative ability among the students. The current year was declared as the year of Quality Assurance to achieve the desired results and meet the educational needs of the students. Prof Uma Coomaraswamy noted that the University has maintained satisfactory academic rationing in the recent years and has been doing well to improve its teaching model. She appreciated the commitment and enthusiasm of the staff who were engaged in self-reviewing exercise. Earlier, Dr. Nomana Anjum, Director Directorate of Quality Enhancement explained the on-going self-review and verification process to achieve the targets, set by the COL.
