Alleged Abduction – Tiwi Detectives from Strike Force Trident have arrested a 19-year-old man after he allegedly stole a vehicle from Tiwi with a child still inside the vehicle. Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said the offender allegedly stole a Toyota Aurion from a residence in Tiwi as a 38-year-old woman loaded her 2-year-old son in the rear car seat at around 7:50am. “The offender drove off with the child inside the vehicle. Police allege the offender drove the vehicle at speed around the street of Tiwi causing significant danger to other road users and pedestrians. “The alleged offender stopped the vehicle, removed the child from the vehicle leaf him in the middle of road in Tiwi Gardens. “The child did not sustain any injuries and was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital as a precaution. “Police located the vehicle abandoned in Tiwi with a blown tyre. “With the assistance of a General Duties dog Police located the offender at around 8:40am. “The prompt response from Police resulted in the swift arrest of the offender. The incident was extremely dangerous and could have had tragic consequences, fortunately nobody was injured.” The man remains in custody and is assisting Police with their enquiries. The offender was arrested on Tuesday for a similar incident. Police alleged the offender stole a Toyota Camry from a residence in Bakewell. The offender allegedly stole the vehicle after the 33-year-old female driver left her car running to unlock a gate. Police located the vehicle at around 8:40pm the same day after it was involved in a crash in Rosebery, irreparably damaging the vehicle. He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and criminal deception.
