Alleged fraud: @bukolasaraki defends self •As EFCC disowns Saharareporters publication Written by Tunde Oyesina - Abuja Wednesday, AS the interrogation of the former Kwara State governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki enters the second day, the Senator has told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he was not guilty of the allegation of fraud leveled against him. Meanwhile, the anti graft agency has disowned an online publication by SaharaReporters that the former governor was being interrogated over an alleged N100 million being collected monthly as pension money from Kwara state government.The Head of Media and Publicity for EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren said in his office in Abuja on Tuesday that the SaharaReporters story was not true.Saraki had on Monday honoured the invitation extended to him by the EFCC to make clarifications on alleged complaints against him.The Senator representing Kwara central in the senate arrived at the head Office of EFCC in Abuja into the waiting hands of operatives detailed to obtain statement from him which he readily obliged. Saraki who was in Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj when the EFCC invitation got to his office in Abuja had promised to honour the invitation upon his return to Nigeria. He said then that as a law abiding citizen he would promptly visit the EFCC to answer any question that may be put to him by EFCC men in the course of their interrogation.Uwujaren further said that detailed findings of the operatives would be made public either in court or at the appropriate place where necessary.“I can confirm to you that I am not aware of anything like that report by the SaharaReporters as part of the complaints against the senator but the finding would be made public where and when necessary.”Uwujaren also confirmed that Saraki honoured the EFCC invitation extended to him two weeks ago and had been cooperating with operatives on the issue raised on his role as the former Executive Director of Societe Generale Bank.The EFCC spokesman also confirmed that Saraki had been offering explanations on issues of financial matters when he was the executive governor of Kwara for eight years.“Inviting present and past public office holders is a normal routine for them to make clarification on issues that may be raised against them. So there is nothing so strange in it.”He said that he would not know when the interrogation would be completed and that necessary steps would be taken by EFCC as soon as the interrogation was completed.
