Allen Wald in this book began an amazing trilogy of books - TopicsExpress

Allen Wald in this book began an amazing trilogy of books rethinking U.S. 20th century literature from the 1930s-1960s by including formerly blacklisted writers. I had taught a series of 1930s poets including Alfred Hays and Kenneth Fearing, but Wald gives whole backgrounds to a group of writers who wrote an amazing literature of what it was like to alive in the 1930s and fighting for welfare and unions. Wald also does great chapters on 1930s African-American writers, 1930s women writers who wrote both about class and feminism, etc. Amazing book. amazon/Exiles-Future-Time-Mid-Twentieth-Century-Literary/dp/0807853496
