Allright fellow SKOLers, Id like to share something on my mind and Id like anyone who agrees/disagrees/indifferent/kitchen sink/etc. to chime on in. IMHO I thought it was overreacting on Bears front office part letting Lovie Smith go after a 10-6 season. I realize Lovie hadnt done much in post-season after his run to the Super Bowl but still, being in the hunt then losing a playoff spot(to a division rival....SKOL) is still a successful season. I mean 10 wins, come on! So THEN they do what I TRULY feel was the worst ordeal and hired Canadian Football League Champ Marc Trestman. It would have been one thing of Trestman spent a year or two up there just to get used to calling all the shots, but this guy was north of the boarder for 4 years. He won Gray Cups each year(Im twirling my fingers in the air and saying yay as I type that - sarcasm), but still, your offense going against severely inferior defenses for 4 years...man...that HAS to twist the mind and bend the instincts some. I realize Trestman was Rich Gannons QB coach during his MVP year and he had even spent time with the Vikes as, I believe, a WRs coach during one of CCs years...but to go from such inferior football to the best possible level there is....I told every Bear fan I knew this was a bad hire....and they told me I was stupid, didnt know football or that I needed to do more research. So what did Trestman do in his first year? He took a 10-6 and made them 8-8. Yes a philosophical change and a plethora of schematic changes could have something to do with the sink in the win-loss columns but if you hire a new coach youre doing so because you feel you have a better man for the job. Furthermore, they played the Packers while Aaron Rodgers was out and they still couldnt beat them, they still couldnt capitalize on the division. I have been anti-Trestman from the beginning of the Bears hiring of the guy and based on how the team is collapsing it looks like I was right about him. Why am I bringing this up on our beloved Vikings page? I think it should make us that much more grateful for what we have. That Emery GM for Da Bears is responsible for that mountainous contract Jay Cutler got this year and it appears he needs to get cut. Well they cant do that without destroying their cap. As much as we all love Jared...Da Bears are currently paying him just small sums below the massive contract we paid him after trading for him from Kansas City(needless to say; we got our moneys worth). Rick Spielman has made sure to minimize the risky contracts to 1-year deals or restructure other players whom may not pan out(SIMPson, Greenway, TE Carlson after last season). Were already seeing a payoff with Mike Zimmers leadership bringing our franchise-worst defense to top 10(weve had plenty of posts about that so I wont go into the stats here) not to mention the team is starting to take on an identity...something it never fully obtained from the previous 2 head coaches. Anyone calling for the firing of either Rick Spielman or Mike Zimmer needs to have a quick look-see over at our Chicago counterparts. They are us a year ago. Theres not a whole lot of other ways around it. Normally, and I want to stress this NORMALLY, I would say lets hope we dont sit back and expect to win this weekend...especially on the road. But then I remember who is coaching this team. Its a winner. A guy who plays to win. Unlike a certain couple coaches we had who played not to lose...and would play down to the competition. This Sunday at Soldier Field, Mike Zimmer is going to make good on his promise he made during his first press conference; all 31 other teams are going to know hes here. Marc Trestman, on the other hand, may have to find a new job come Monday. SKOL
