Along the western side of the Dead Sea, the lowest place in the world (1200 feet below sea level) are a series of sharp cliffs. This valley is known as the Sudo-African rift which extends from Sudan in the South to Turkey in the north. Israels eastern border with Jordan. Although the valleys between the cliffs do usually not flow with water, when it rains in the Judaean mountains, massive flooding takes place and hiking in these areas is strictly forbidden.
