Alright, I just gotta put this out there. Before I go any further...understand this...a person has to have a dream...and has every right to dream as big as they wish...there are truly amazing stories out there of athletes who defied the odds...that being said...buckle up. 1.) This year an estimated 7.8 % of high school football players will receive division one football scholarships. Of the 7.8% that will play at the next level 2% of that number will become starters. Of the number that become division one starters...half a percent will go pro. 2.) The little things matter! You can have all the ability in the world...but you gotta make the stat sheet...not tackles...not TDs...but rather...vertical jump, reach, etc. Ive seen one lineman get a scholarship and another turned away because of a one inch reach advantage. It really is that competitive. It is important when we set goals, that they are realistic ones. Theres no sense in banging your head against the wall trying to accomplish something that clearly isnt working out. That is not to say that you should give up right away...but be honest with yourselves as well. Education should be the clear priority. Your bodies wont last forever, and given the very small percentages in play with pro athletics...odds are...youll be working a 9-5, not playing on Sundays. I had a coach once that said this Whatever you do in life, always put yourself in a position to be successful. Wise words. Furthermore...if you do have the ability to play D-1 ball...grades are the determining factor...you dont have the GPA to satisfy admissions...you dont play...that simple. Be objective...be honest...and work hard. Often times life has a way of redirecting us...our plans are not necessarily Gods plans. You would do well to remember that Gods plan for your life will make you far happier than ANYTHING you can dream up on your own.
