Although I am saddened by the recent news in St. Louis, I must say that perpetuating division between races is never the answer. As police brutality continues to be a problem in communities of color, it’s time to take a different approach. It seems protesting is yielding minimal results and has become a liability that welcomes violence. Violence is most certainly not the answer as it endangers lives. In order to kill a snake you must cut off the head, and in this case the head is corrupt police departments due to like-minded individuals wreaking havoc on the very communities they are supposed to protect and serve. To create substantial and sustainable change there has got to be more people of color involved in law enforcement and the judicial system. The way people are trying to get young women excited about future careers in computers and science should also be done for young people of color when it comes to future careers in politics and law enforcement. Instead of having our young people despise and fear police officers and the court system, they should be educated on it and excited about it. Don’t fight the system, become the system.
