Although I know that my dad would be the better person to be on this then me, cause he has a million and one stories about the Cat!! But it wasnt until 25th March 2004 until i really got to know him!!! The Lifeboat was called out to a trawler with engine problems and cause I was a newbie it didnt bother me that it was 40 miles south of Ballycotton and it would eventually take us 16ish hours to get home but it was the fact that I was on the Lifeboat with 2 of {in my eyes}the most legendary crew members in Ballycotton.......The Cat and The Fairy....needless to say I was bricking it incase Id make a fool of myself and was all tough and oh ya Im grand for the first 3 hours in front of them it wasnt till we were coming back..... between the 1 knot we were towing and the two of them eating tuna, the seasickness kicked in.......thinking I was the only girl with all lads on the boat Id get no sympathy at all but no.... it was the Cat who looked after me :) he got me a blanket and water to keep me hydrated and talked to me for hours and kept my spirits up!!!! Fair play to him !!! And from that minute we got off that boat to this very minute I think of the Cat as the most well natured, kindest and my real hero of that day!!!! That will always be the memory that comes into my head when I think of the Cat... Ballycotton wont be the same without him and the people wont either!!! And i can count on it that if theres a pub like Lynchs up in heaven my grandfather is buying him a drop for looking after me....... Rest in peace x
