Although not without controversy in that Canada has not lived up - TopicsExpress

Although not without controversy in that Canada has not lived up to the recommendations offered, the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples (RCAP) is an excellent resource to learn about Canada’s historical beginnings. What makes volume 1 of RCAP exceptional is the 4 stage model that is relied upon to convey an Indigenous understanding: 1. Separate Worlds; 2. Contact and Co-operation; 3. Displacement and Assimilation; and 4. Negotiation and Renewal. RCAP was written for ordinary people rather than academics, political scientists, or historians, and in this way it is written in a very accessible style. Once you finish reading volume 1 you will be better prepared to then understand how it is that Canada’s colonial history and the violation of treaties continue to this day.
