Although we only see part of the story, this is shameful to me. This situation could have been avoided. As opposed to being resolved in a passive manner, this is a demonstration of an abnormal aggressive behavior taking place between a civilian and the officers. These two parties were clearly participating in a heated back and forth argument which led to these consequences. Instead of accomplishing the goal to establish law and order, the opposite was done, for which I strongly believe that new protocols have to be implemented in the force particularly for new hires. I do believe that new psychological evaluation and new training methods also need to be implemented. The force needs to be re-trained with different scenarios such as this, as well as dealing with individuals who are mentally incapacitated or have some type of psychological disorders. I also believe that new hires need to learn appropriate procedures in vast training sessions with specific scenarios to learn how to diffuse aggression - not just between civilians, but also between civilians and officers. A badge and a firearm is not a license to be disrespectful or use unnecessary excessive force, or the belief that one is above anyone, thus attitudes and temperament is something that needs to be addressed in the force. Due to the high alerts and the crime rate, we are facing, these officers are already at a higher intensity of stress level which needs to be appropriately channeled.
