#AlwaysMoveForward Jack Ma or Ma Yun is a Chinese Internet Entrepreneur who was born on 15 October 1964 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province of China. He is the first mainland Chinese entrepreneur to appear on the cover of Forbes Magazine and in 2005, Ma was selected by the World Economic Forum as a “Young Global Leader”. Having twice failed university entrance exams, he became a teacher after entering the local teachers college: Hangzhou Teachers Institute (currently known as Hangzhou Normal University) and graduated in 1988 with a bachelors degree in English. He has said that he was rejected from Harvard 10 times and that he was turned down as a secretary to a Kentucky Fried Chicken general manager. Yet, while at Hangzhou Teachers Institute, Ma was elected student chairman and later became a lecturer in English and International Trade at the Hangzhou Dianzi University. Jack Ma founded Alibaba in 1999, a China-based business-to-business marketplace site which currently serves more than 79 million members from more than 240 countries and territories. He now serves as Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group, which is a holding company with nine major subsidiaries–Alibaba, Taobao Marketplace, Tmall, eTao, Alibaba Cloud Computing, Juhuasuan, 1688, AliExpress and Alipay. This week Alibaba filed for its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the United States, in what could be the biggest offering in United States history. Bloomberg reports that Alibaba wants to sell 12% of the company. It also says analysts value the company at $168 billion. That would mean Alibaba raises $20.16 billion, which is more than Visa, the current high for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) which raised $19.65 billion.
