Am I living in an alternate reality? Since when is it OK people to - TopicsExpress

Am I living in an alternate reality? Since when is it OK people to violently assault police officers? Or is it only OK if young black men do it? If I assault an officer, attempt to disarm him and use his weapon against him, why should anyone be surprised (let alone outraged) when I end up dead? Mourn the loss of life. But rioting in the streets? This is madness. This is not about justice; this is a misplaced desire for revenge. Young black men die every day and no one gets this upset about it unless it was at the hands of a non-black person. Doesnt make the news. This is about something else symptomatic of a much larger set of economic, social, cultural, and political problems. So lets have those conversations. Blacks in the US have been brutally mistreated for centuries. There is institutional racism in our justice system; there is a real problem with disproportionate numbers of young black men in US prisons and jails. Now would be a good time to address these issues as a nation and it would certainly help if our president used his influence and office to speak to that. But it appears this was simply an officer defending himself in the course of his duties. Seriously- stop setting shit on fire, get up off the freeway, go home and hug your kids.
