Am I rich? I am staying in a house whose paint is 4 years old and faded. My TV is a normal one without 3D or Smart feature. I dont have any car and I travel by Budget airlines. On my holiday trip, I cant afford 5* hotel hence stays in a 3* hotel. Many time eat outside of hotel as the inside restaurant are found to be expensive. This implies if you come with a camera to my house, you would find enough evidence that I am no rich. Let me share another perspective now. I am here in Singapore for last 9+ years.My kids goes to Indian International school. I have 2 TV at home, one in living room and one in bedroom. I have Front loading washing machine (BOTCH), Dish washer (BOTCH), irobot vacuum cleaner, stays in my own house in SG and have 2 houses in India. Every year I travel to a new holiday destination.... Will it make you to believe that I am rich? Let me share another perspective now. All my batch mates who were in Singapore much lesser than me are staying much better lifestyle in Singapore than what I am enjoying. They have their own car whereas I use public transport. They send their kids to American International school, I only can afford Indian. They travel to Europe & Australia for holiday and I just go to Malaysia or Indonesia... Will it make you to believe that I am rich? Let me share another perspective now. I belongs to a lower middle class family. After my fathers retirement, he had left with lot of debt which I had to clear them out. My mother is ill and I have to spend around Rs 35000 per month on her medical expenses. I also bear my sisters marriage expenses all from my pocket. Will it show you my challenges and why I couldnt achieve the financial freedom which I could have achieved? Is a State Developed? When we talk about development of any state, we can see the same thing from different perspective. We just cant take things in absolute terms. We have to understand - what are the unique challenges or opportunity exist for a state and how it has managed its resources to achieve its objective of taking it towards Next Step. In recent trip, Kejriwal found many flaws in Gujarat. Sisodia has raised question about low salary of school teacher, lack of sanitation facility in lesser developed area. But is it not there that each government has a budget constraint and they have to take up things on priority basis? Is it not that while sharing about not so good stuff, we have to look for areas where Govt claims that they have achieved something? So it all boils down to - what you want to see and why you want to see. A governments performance not measured in terms of absolute value rather in terms of relative values. As none owning a car wont be sufficient enough for anybody to guess my bank balance, similarly picking a ruined hospital or school cant be used to thrashed achievement of Modi Government in Gujarat. Internet has given us the freedom to validate things. Lets think and dont allow bad guys to feed us with lies.
