Am beside myself this morning listening to the news item about Ashya King - the hospital has now apparently issued a statement and said: We are aware of the comments made online by his father. Throughout Ashyas admission we have had conversations about the treatment options available to him and we had offered the family access to a second opinion, as well as assistance with organising treatment abroad.…. As a midwife I know of situations where new parents have been told social services will be involved unless they agree to treatment for their new baby (often iv antibiotics). Listening to the fathers explanation in his video, his distress at the threat of an emergency protection order and then being denied access if they challenge the doctors view sounds plausible and genuine to me and so he may well have felt they had no options left Who is telling the truth here….and who is benefitting from this deeply distressing situation? I only hope that the judge in Madrid has some compassion and common sense and brings an end to this nightmare for the family as quickly as possible
