Amar Amarni: l’artiste, le peintre, le musicien du renouvellement Hommage à Matoub Lounes et dénonciation du climat politique algérien actuel. This song is a commentary on the government and the continued struggle for freedom and identity in Berber culture. Its a combination of an original song by singer Matoub Lounes, and Amar Amarnis own lyrics and sounds. The first part of the song uses Matoubs original lyrics from nearly 30 years ago, and the second part uses Amars lyrics to show how the current political situation hasnt changed with time. Matoubs lyrics express how the government causes all the problems for the Berbers and Algerians in general, using the metaphor that clouds roll in to block out the sun just as it starts to shine. Amars lyrics assert how thirty years later the people are still fighting for the same reasons. Fighting for freedom and democracy in a country where government injustice rules; a country where a dying president can run for a 4th term in office. There are two spoken voice tracks in the song. In the first, Amar says, So much time has passed, so many people have been killed, and yet we are stuck in the same place. The second, at the end of the song, is the FLN (National Liberation Front) presidential candidate saying, FLN FLN. Tell the population that the military is not with us. Its a lie. Its a lie. The complete song was recorded and mixed in Amars home studio. All instruments and sounds were recorded there with the exception of the vocal. Matoub Lounes was killed publicly in 1998 by terrorists, but even terrorists can be puppets of the government.
