Ambition report 3rd. January 15 ------------------------------------------- The frustration continues I have now spent four days avoiding Marlin. I know it is not all my fault, there is plenty I can blame. I could blame the lack of current or that the water colour isnt quite right I can even blame the moon or even the sun but that might be stretching it a little or if I was really desperate I could blame myself or best of all my deckie but to hell with all that the real reason is that there are not many fish here at present. In truth yesterday the water was the best colour I have seen in a while though the temperature wasnt real good and there was still no current ( still got to blame something ). I sat on 12 mile and didnt move at all, the wind was perfectly balancing the slight current. It didnt make any difference though: Id marked a good school of fish high in the water column and got an immediate hook-up on a live bait but after five minutes or so we were bitten off by a jacket and from the on we couldnt get past them. There have been a couple of Marlin tagged off Sydney over the last few days by some very, very lucky anglers and as many were jumped off. Yesterday there was a bite to the South of Port Hacking and there are still some fish up North from Terrigal but you still have to work hard for them. The charts show a good current sweeping down past Seal Rocks and the small Blacks are moving down the coast from Southern Queensland in numbers. I believe they are currently between Ballina and Coffs Harbour so hopefully Port Stephens soon. Only a few days before I leave for Port Stephens where the bite is a little more consistent. Ive been told there is plenty of bait up there which is always a good sign but the fish are inconsistent being on live-bait one day and lures or skippies the next.
