Americas best Olympic Lifter ever? Was a powerlifter. First dont judge a book by its cover.Great video of his 986lb. ATG squat and his 538lb C& Jerk. The deio shows the incredible speed and some great lifts .IF you want some history on Shane you can read on.Other wise One of the best squatters ever and the heaviest American Clean and Jerk on the video.History/Trivia :) Along with his lifting pedigree Shane Hammon @ 5 9,360 ! could dunk a basketball, had a verified 36 verticle jump could do a flat footed back flip..Arguably Americas Best Olympic lifter ever with the American Records 523.2 Clean& Jerk(watch video),435 snatch & of course the total. Hamman won all 9 American Senior National Championship that he competed in (1997-2005). He holds every American weightlifting record in his class. He started as a powerlifter and did the unheard of switched to O lifting at very late age of 24.His 986,explosive,beyond quick dive bomb squat(watch video) & aforementioned abilities show ample explosiveness and athleticism though truly he was too late to the Olympic Lifting game to develop the necessary motor patterns and technique to medal @ the Olympics or Worlds.(earned Gold @ Pan American games though) The Russians,European & Asian Olympic lifters start as young as 10 years of age and no later than their teens (vs Shane starting at age 24).Olympic lifting is a difficult skill and takes years to truly master thus the earlier the start the better. Shane also quit O lifting right after Olympics many consider him to have been no where near his full potential as he was essentially a newby, very little miles on his body & no history of injuries.Shane was still relying on raw power & speed as opposed to his much more skilled Russian,Asian,European competitors. Powerlifting definitely takes technique & good form but easier to learn and it comes down to either your strong or your not. Interestingly and a correction as well:Shane when you add his best 5 Lifts up appears to have the best 5 lift super total ever don.Never did the math and with Koklayev being active& with others conveying that Misha Koklayev had the best Super total ever... it appears to be American Shane Hammans record. Misah koklaeyev in Official meets:Squat:804, Bench 529, Deadlift 920, C&J 551, Santch 463=3213 Shane Hammon in Official Meets.Squat:986 Bench 552 Deadlift 738 C&J 538 and Snatch 438=3236 sportsworx24hr
