Ames Exhibits Planetary Exploration Technology at the Tech Museum of Innovation in June and July 2013 NASA Ames will have a fascinating exhibit at The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, Calif., featuring artifacts and models of current and previous spacecraft missions. The exhibit will be hosted in conjunction with the 10th International Planetary Probe Workshop (IPPW-10), which is co-hosted by San Jose State University and Ames. The showcase of memorabilia will be on display from Monday June 10 – July 31, 2013. See a full-size mockup of the Galileo probe (which entered Jupiter’s atmosphere in 1995), test models from Ames’ Arc-Jet and Hypervelocity Free-Flight Facility, models of future satellites, and much more! As part of this workshop, the IPPW-10 will present the annual Alvin Seiff Memorial Award. Seiff was an innovative engineer, an exceptional technical manager and a known world-class atmospheric research scientist at Ames. This year, the award will be presented to another prestigious Ames employee, Dr. James O. Arnold on Monday, June 17, 2013. In addition, the Chief Engineer for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) Project Robert Manning will discuss the successful landing of Curiosity Rover on Mars, which occurred on Aug. 5, 2012. Manning will speak from 5 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, June 18 at the Tech Museum. His talk is entitled, “The Challenges of Going to Mars: Mars Science Laboratory.” Manning was responsible for ensuring that the design, the test program and the team, working together, would result in a mission that would work.
