An Account of the Geneaology of the Ancestors of the Ngati-Whatua Tribe written by Paul Tuhau-ere of the said tribe My ancestor was Tumu-tumu-whenua this man came from the interior of the Earth, he was not of this world. His wife was Tarepo who belonged to this world being a Tahu-rangi the tribe of this woman was the Patu-pai-arehe a race found in this world, who are not visible to mankind. The abiding place of that people were the high mountain tops where they dwell unseen by man. But that people can be seen by the Mata-kite who see them as they go along among mists and driziling rain clouds. From thence came the wife of Tumu-tumu-whenua.
