An Army colonel has advised that services public affairs personnel to use photos of average-looking women when illustrating stories on their Women in Service Review. She suggested that this photo of an Army corporal providing security in Iraq was too pretty to accompany stories on the topic. She wrote in an internal email that ugly women are perceived as competent while pretty women are perceived as having used their looks to get ahead.
