An Internet lady friend (Mrs. Claggart has ALWAYS related better - TopicsExpress

An Internet lady friend (Mrs. Claggart has ALWAYS related better to women, unlike my evil twin who relates to NO ONE) sent me Stefan Zuckers book about Franco Corelli (Volume one if you please, there are two more, though hes using the first to raise money to publish them). I have never seen such a load of BS and discredited posturing about vocal technique in my life. Its as though the past fifty years of scientific study of how humans produce a singing tone and what happens when that tone has naturally, or is developed into having an operatic sound. Zucker discusses loads of tenors and their techniques and has no hesitation about pontificating about influential figures of the 19th century, who of course he never heard and has no idea how they sounded or actually produced their voices in what for them was the new music and he compares HIMSELF (sample below) to EVERY tenor on records. Bjorling does x but I DO y or I, unlike Pertile, do z and on and on. He has published the Corelli interviews on tape and I believe DVD already. From listening to some of those I know he doesnt understand the little Corelli says since he speaks mostly in Italian and scarcely can get a word in, though amateurs and fools (such as Zuckers father --!-- are quoted at length since they called into the program, Opera Fanatic). Those who think their $35 will buy either a bio of Corelli (Volume One!) or some personal stories about his life and career will get nothing, but a little gossip (apropos of nothing, Zucker drops the name of one of Francos lovers a well known and loved soprano of the time, with no proof, and under a picture of Del Monaco in tight tights speculates on his genitals and how they effected his singing!). Here is Mr. Zucker and another authority he quotes, his mother (he used to deny it but admits it in the book); yes, you can hear how he is equal to Bjorling, Schipa, Pertile, Corelli, Tucker (discreetly put down), Bergonzi, and in some senses their superior technically. The clip is introduced by a bit of Galvany speaking casually and briefly. https://youtube/watch?v=Y2f8mCDIa8A
