An absolute MONSTER of a day today in the NFL. The first day of Free Agency is drawing to a close with some shock signings and some bizarre trades. Here is a summary of it all: 1. The New Orleans Saints signed Safety Jarius Byrd to a huge six year deal worth $56 million dollars. The signing came has a shock to many as the Saints were perceived to some salary cap issues; 2. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were one of the winners of the day with some great signings. They signed cornerback Alterraun Verner to a four year deal worth $26.5 million dollars and explosive pass rusher Michael Johnson to a five year deal worth $43.75 million dollars; 3. Some key releases today, with pro bowl pass rushers DeMarcus Ware, Julius Peppers and Jared Allen all looking for new teams; 4. The Cleveland Browns made a lot of moves today with the addition of linebacker Karlos Dansby (4 years, $24M) and safety Donte Whitner (4 years, $28M) and are said to be key players in negotiations for Darrelle Revis; 5. The Indianapolis Colts made a few moves with the re-signing of cornerback Vontae Davis (4 years, $39M), re-signing Mr Clutch Adam Vinatieri, the acquisition of defensive lineman Arthur Jones (5 years, $33M) and re-signing running back Ahmad Bradshaw for a one year deal; 6. Former The Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Branden Albert is taking his talents to South Beach, signing with the Miami Dolphins on a 5 year deal worth $46 million dollars; 7. The Oakland Raiders despite having a ton of cap room only managed two signings on day one, landing offensive tackle Rodger Saffold on a five year, $42.5 million dollar deal. They also re-signed injury prone running back Darren Mcfadden on a one year deal worth $4 million.; 8. The Raiders also lost star offensive tackle Jared Veldheer to the Arizona Cardinals on a five year deal worth $33 million dollars; 9. In a move to replace Julius Peppers, the Chicago Bears signed defensive end Lamarr Houston on $35 million dollar deal spanning five years; 10. The Baltimore Ravens managed to hold onto star left tackle Eugene Monroe having trading for him mid way through last season. 11. The Washington Redskins made some under the radar signings with wide reciever Andre Roberts Fan Page joining them on a four year deal worth $16 million. They also acquired former Cleveland Browns guard Shawn Lauvao on a four year deal worth $17 million; 12. In what was the signing of the day until the Jarius Byrd news broke, the Denver Broncos signed hard hitting Safety T.J. Ward to a four year deal worth $23 million, they also emerged as the key player in acquiring veteran DeMarcus Ware; 13. The Philadelphia Eagles struck a three year deal worth $16.25 million dollars with Safety Malcolm Jenkins; 14. The Minnesota Vikings and Linval Joseph have agreed on a five-year deal worth $31.5 million; 15. The Atlanta Falcons in trying to keep with the Saints and Panthers in the NFC South made a few deals, the first being some much needed offensive line help by acquiring guard Jon Asamoah, the second was landing defensive tackle Paul Soliai on a five-year contract worth $33 million and the last was Defensive End Tyson Jackson on $5 million dollar a year deal for five years; 16. The New York Giants made some questionable signings landing running back Rashard Jennings, linebacker OBrien Schofield and agreed to terms with guard Geoff Schwartz; 17. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Safety Mike Mitchell on a 5 year $25 million dollar deal; 17. The Jacksonville Jaguars also made some splashes in free agency today, former Broncos guard Zane Beadles is joining the team on a five year deal estimated at $30 million. They also stole Adrian Petersons backup in Toby Gerhart making a three deal with the running back worth $10.5 million dollars; 18. The San Francisco 49ers replaced Safety Donte Whitner with Free Safety Antoine Bethea on a four year deal worth six million a year; 19. Yesterday the Seattle Seahawks re-signed defensive end Michael Bennett on a four year $28.5 million dollar deal; ANDDDD... 20. Last but not least, the strangest of them all. The San Francisco 49ers trades a sixth round draft pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for former first round quarterback Blaine Gabbert. Absolutely unexpected!
