An absurd US allegation: Since the beginning of the war on terror - TopicsExpress

An absurd US allegation: Since the beginning of the war on terror in Afghanistan, the US is continuously using all sorts of pressure tactics to tame the security agencies of Pakistan, making them work for their gains in the region. Hence more often than not the US media vomits out venomous public oratory. Once again, an American daily, quoting classified documents provided by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden – a man who deserted his workplace and the country for their wrongdoings – has reported that the US intelligence agencies had discovered evidence of the plot to kill a leading lawyer and prominent human rights’ activist Asma Jahangir, who is leading critics of the security establishment, in India or Pakistan. The summary of a top-secret Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) report claims that in May 2012, the US agencies found out that Pakistani security officers were plotting to “eliminate” Ms Jahangir but it did not identify which officers were plotting to kill Ms Jahangir. In media interviews, Ms Jahangir herself revealed at several occasions that the Pakistani intelligence officials had marked her for death. Since then it remained a speculation. Even today like Americans, the outspoken lawyer hardly spares any opportunity to unleash criticism over the Pakistan’s security agencies including Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), yet she has never been harmed by any quarter. Many a times she took liberty to directly blame the ISI for a number of incidents taking place there in India without having confirmation from any credible sources that eventually turned out to be false. It is not the first time that the American media has carried fabricated press reports against Pakistan. Rather it would not be wrong to say that the security agencies often employ such allegations for arm-twisting of Pakistani agencies to bring them to their terms. Interestingly, the American contract reached out to the classified documents of the most sensitive nature but he could not establish the identity of the architect of the plot. It does sound ridiculous. Secondly, in a country where the terrorists have executed thousand of the people including some prominent figures at their will without being challenged, why would the Pakistani agencies choose difficult route to kill an elderly lady in India when the same can be executed in anywhere in Pakistan anytime. Notwithstanding with strong network of the intelligence that the US has established across Pakistan, the Americans are in close contact with the Pakistan security officials, making extensive use of information shared by the ISI for more than a decade yet the US agency did not know whether Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence had given approval for the plot to proceed against Ms Asma Jahangir to quiet public criticism of the military. They cannot be so ill-informed. It does sound like a cheap joke that undermines the towering personality of Ms Asma who unshakably believes destiny lies in the hands of God and nobody can do any harm to her but Allah.
