An acceptable list of fun sci-fi comedies, and I agree that Back to the Future (actually the entire trilogy) should be at the top of the list. And that Galaxy Quest should be second. Strange to me that Josh Whedons Cabin in the Woods is on the list, though, and even though Im a huge Whedon fan, it doesnt belong: first, its not sci-fi; its fantasy/horror. Second, while it is a parody or satire of an entire genre of bad horror films, its not a comedy, but rather a gory horror movie at heart: though it does have some funny moments, its mostly dark satire and irony that come through, not what we usually call comedy. Numerous other sci-fi films do qualify as sci-fi comedy-drams, though, yet werent included, my favorite of which is Cashback (2004); and Happy Accidents (2000), and then theres the excellent recent time travel comedy About Time (2013), which all should have made the list instead. All of these are comedies with one sci-fi theme or assumption added to the mix, and they are all top-notch films, as is, also in this category, Groundhog Day, which did make the list, and is one of my favorite films of all time from any genre.
