An active workshop and pop-up art window at once, hosting artists - TopicsExpress

An active workshop and pop-up art window at once, hosting artists from various disciplines, right in the heart of Lisbon. The magnificent neo-Moorish style Embaixada from the 1800s, a building recently restored in its full glory and today hosting contemporary Portuguese fashion & design brands and regular artistic events. In just a couple of months time, Embaixada has grown into an urban hotspot, where locals and visitors alike meet for a drink, lunch or dinner. In this lively building at Principe Real, artists are invited to be in residence in the attic, and conceive work. Every 2 months, other artists are to join and add their view to the ATTIC. What is created is always very specific, made in the Embaixada, and presented to a varied audience. The artists are invited because of their unconventional relationship with art, their thinking out of the box, and their autonomous and independent approach. Apart from being a physical space under the roof, the ATTIC is a dynamic work in progress and a project as well, inevitably entering a dialogue with the realms of historical architecture of the city. The series of 4 consequent interventions that are to take place until the end of 2014, boosts a challenging artistic dynamism in Portugal’s capital. For these autonomous, independent and unbound artists, the ATTIC proves to be a genuine alternative for the traditional art circuit of galleries, fairs and museums, thus shaping a new dynamic meeting point in the city. The ATTIC is a common initiative of several active Lisboetas, galvanized and curated by AADK Portugal (Aktuelle Architektur der Kultur, º2008), an international artistic platform active in Berlin, Barcelona/Blanca and Lisbon. Lisbon based dancer, performer and curator Vania Rovisco takes the artistic direction of the various events in ATTIC as AADK Portugal, assisted by producer/artist Diogo Barros Pires, technical director António Neto and journalist Veerle Devos (DAMnºmagazine).
